A question that’s been asked many times, is why should you visit the Christmas market of Montreux. Well, there are several reasons why to visit this particular market. Especially when the evening rolls in and it’s getting a bit darker, it’s even nicer to see Santa flying over Lake Geneva. Santa flies by about 3 times a day.
Meeting Santa Claus is an awesome opportunity too. You will have to take a little train, heading towards the mountain top at Rochers-de-Naye (altitude: 2,042 m). This is such a fun activity for families, especially with younger children. The ride by the cogwheel railway towards Santa is already a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Children and even parents love it. Santa ensures that no child leaves this magical place without a gift. You can perform this activity on Wednesdays to Sundays from 24 November to 24 December 2022. Whereas larger cities such as Zurich have multiple Christmas market locations, Montreux has one large Christmas market located at the promenade of Lake Geneva. Along the lakeside over 170 exhibitors and artisans, restaurants and rides ensure you that there is plenty of things to do.
How to get to the Christmas market in Montreux?
There are three main ways to reach the Christmas market in Montreux. Starting with travelling by car. This option is not the most recommended one. Parking is highly restricted in Montreux. Public transport is a better option if possible. Check out up-to-date information about visiting the market by car here.
Travelling by public transport is an easy and convenient way. Why? Because the Christmas market is located almost directly at the right of the train station. Travelling by train is therefore recommended.
Travelling by foot is also an option. A lovely walk takes you from the train station to the market. You just need to head west to the water and then walk along the lakeside to Place du Marche. Here you will find the Big Wheel. In our opinion making use of public transport and then walking to the Christmas Market is the most convenient way.
