The easiest way to reach Lake Stellisee from Zermatt is by taking the Sunnega funicular railway and then you continue by foot. This path is beautiful and the views are stunning.

Another possibility to reach Lake Stellisee from Zermatt, to save some hiking time is by taking the Blauherd cable car and then just walking a small part of the other hike, this will only take around 20 minutes.

The entree fee is free. This magical destination is always open and freely accessible. Of course, you do need to take the cable car or funicular to reach this destination.

Luckily the hiking trail is easy and well accessible for almost everyone. It only takes you around 20 minutes to reach the lake from the Blauherd summit station. Luckily the hike is not particularly steep.

What time to visit Lake Stellisee?

This is a good question, the best time to visit Lake Stellisee is early in the morning or later in the evening if you’d love a romantic spot. The sunset or sunrise is incredibly beautiful.

However, this place is beautiful throughout the day, especially on hot summer days, it is lovely and refreshing to cool down in this mountain water.

What is the 5 lakes hike near Zermatt?

A popular hiking trail that will lead you along lakes. During this hike, you will see some of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland. In three of the lakes, you will see the majestic reflection of the Matterhorn. The trail is very diverse and this makes it interesting in our opinion.

The trail duration is estimated at around 2 hours and 30 minutes. In our case, it took us around 3-3.5 hours as we took many pictures. It is signified as a medium level of difficulty, there are quite some altitude meters, from ascending around 150 meters but descending almost 450 metres.

The distance of this hike is 9.8 kilometres. This route is perfect for families too, it is recommended for ages 6 and older.

The hike will guide you along several lakes: the Stellisee, Grindjisee, Grunsee, Moosjisee and the Leisee. The beautiful thing is that all these lakes are unique and different. Not only in shape but also in colour, and size and they all have their special attraction.

In some lakes you can swim for example the Leisee or the Grunsee. The Grunsee is particularly good for photography of the rugged landscape, with stone pines growing in the surroundings. The Leisee has the best spot for a picnic, we had some lovely sunny weather during our afternoon picnic.

If you love flowers, especially in summer and spring, the Grindjisee is home to unique and special flowers. Each lake, as you now understand has something unique to offer. It is even cooler that you will see them all during this 9.8-kilometre hike!

Okay, so you start at the summit station the Blauherd, then you hike to Stellisee, then to Grindjisee, then to Grunsee, Moosjisee, Leisee and ending at Sunnegga. You can easily follow signposts with the 5 Seenweg.

What to wear during the 5 lakes hike near Zermatt?
